Justin Bieber’s Church Pastor Discusses Speculations that He Told Singer to Cancel World Tour
Church pastor Carl Lentz has denied rumors that he played a big part in influencing the recent decision of Justin Bieber, to whom he plays as a mentor figure, to postpone his upcoming performances.
Bieber canceled the remaining shows in his Purpose World Tour in July. The pop star initially pointed out “unforeseen circumstances” as his main reason for canceling the tour. TMZ claimed that Bieber postponed the rest of the tour to “rededicate his life to Christ,” with the Canadian singer eventually releasing an official statement with which he expressed his keenness for his “mind, heart and soul to be sustainable.”
Following rumors that Lentz advised Bieber to cancel the rest of his world tour, the pastor has denied such accusations on “The Breakfast Club.”
“People who speculate like that don’t have any context of what it means to have a pastor or a friend and Justin made his own calls,” Lentz said. “He made his own decisions. It’s not my role to tell this boy, this man really, man of god, what to do.”
Lentz also assured Bieber’s fans that he lets the “Love Yourself” singer carry out the things that he wants to do and not exert control over them.
“If he asks for advice, I would give it. But that’s not my primary role. Why would I have a hand in him canceling his tour? Why would I want Beliebers mad at me?” Lentz added.
In August, Bieber wrote to his fans about the Purpose world tour’s cancellation, saying that he does not want to be ashamed of his mistakes and, instead, learn and grow from these circumstances.
“Me taking this time right now is me saying I want to be sustainable. I want my career to be sustainable, but I also want my mind, heart, and soul to be sustainable,” Bieber wrote.
Lentz can be viewed discussing the tour cancellation rumors at the 26:50 mark.
