Adam Lambert Cast as Judas in "Jesus Christ Superstar"

Adam Lambert has been cast as Judas Iscariot in a star-studded production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. This limited-run show will take place from August 1 to 3, 2025.
Joining Lambert is Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award-winner Cynthia Erivo, who will portray Jesus. The production is directed and choreographed by Tony winner Sergio Trujillo, with musical direction by Stephen Oremus, a two-time Grammy and Tony Award winner.
This staging aims to honor the show's original rock roots, referencing its inception as a 1970 concept album before its Broadway debut in 1971 and subsequent 1973 film adaptation . Unlike concert-style revivals, this will be a fully staged production.
While he identifies culturally with Judaism, Lambert has described his religious practice as more spiritual than devout. He has mentioned that his family celebrated holidays like Chanukah and occasionally Passover, but did not observe all traditional practices. In his own words, they were "kind of Jewish by form. Lightly Jewish. Diet Jews. More of a heritage thing."
Lambert has also publicly clarified that he is not Christian. In response to a fan's comment about his faith, he stated, "I'm not a Christian... Never have been. That's not my faith."
Throughout his career, Lambert has engaged with his Jewish heritage through performances at various events. Notably, he performed "Shir LaShalom" at a memorial concert for Yitzhak Rabin and participated in services at the Temple of the Arts in Beverly Hills.
Tickets for the Hollywood Bowl's 2025 summer season, including Jesus Christ Superstar, went on sale on May 6, 2025. Given the high-profile casting, the brief run is expected to be a significant theatrical event .
