'Homeland Season' 4 Episode 1 Recap: Carrie Goes To Afghanistan, Quinn Done With CIA's Evil Acts, Brody's Family Stint Ends
The Israeli-drama-based political television series opened its fourth season with a bang! Take it literally. So for those who miss "Homeland Season 4 Episode 1," this recap is for you.
"Homeland Season 4" opened with an explosion in Afghanistan. The opening scene showed Carrie, played by Claire Danes, faced with a big decision to make after a call from CIA agent Sandy, Peter Russo.
Sandy tipped Claire that "a high value target has been cornered" and asked the head officer the go signal to take out the terrorist. After weighing her options, Carrie ordered a drone strike that created a huge catastrophe in Kabul, Afghanistan.
In order to take hold of a US' hit list's number four terrorist, the opening bomb dropping incident coincides with Carrie's birthday. It was celebrated both with a cake for "The Drone Queen" courtesy of her staffers and a messy airstrike on a farmhouse in Pakistan.
"Homeland Season 4" sets its lead character, Carrie Mathison, to continue her journey in ending Islamic terrorism as a CIA officer. After giving birth to her unwanted first child, Carrie heads to Pakistan and left her baby in America with her sister.
The political thriller is based on a drama series in Israel titled "Hatufim," which means "Prisoners of War." Its Season 4 premiere introduced a new character named Aayan Ibrahim, nephew of Haissam Haqqani.
Aayan, played by "Life of Pi" actor Suraj Sharma, is the lone survivor of the drone strike that Carrie has ordered. He was in a wedding with his family when the bombs were dropped.
As he went back to his school after the tragic accident, Aayan showed his classmate a video of the wedding captured before the drone strike and opened up on how he truly feels after his lost. The video later went viral thus, creating a buzz against Carrie's order.
Sandy, the CIA who informed Carrie of the terrorist's presence in Kabul, also died in the premiere episode. He was originally set to meet his mystery informant when Carrie called to warn him about the local outrage brought by the viral video from Aayan.
Because of the catastrophic turn of event, Observer noted that Peter Quinn seemed thinking of quitting CIA for good as the officer look like 'he can't take death anymore'.
Fans of "Homeland" also liked Season 4 Episode 1 because there is 'no more Brody' in it. Damian Lewis' terrorist character, Nicholas Brody, was already killed during the series' third season.
Viewers and TV-buffs also speculate that there will be a potential budding romance between CIA officers Carrie and Quinn as "Homeland Season 4" continues.
