'Gone Girl' Release Date, Latest News: David Fincher's 'Gone Girl' Starring Ben Affleck Nabs Top Spot At Box Office
He still has it! David Fincher has still got the midas touch. His movie 'Gone Girl' went up the charts in the weekend box office list with a whooping 38 million. Internationally the movie earned $24.6 million.
"Gone Girl" is about a man accused of killing his wife; with the media hounding him, and all hell breaking loose. It was a very close race with a creepy doll named "Annabelle." The film about possession got the second place spot with a 37.2 million.
Senior Media Analyst for Rentrak Paul Dergarabedian stated that it was a "photo finish" for the film Gone Girl. He added that offering two different genres to moviegoers is not a bad idea. Meanwhile, head of Fox Distribution Chris Aronson revealed that the ripple of publicity plus the chitchat in the social media boosted curiosity-making people check out the movie.
Further down the box office list is the film "The Equalizer." The full of vengeance movie of Denzel Washington was at number three with a 19 million earnings. It was the second time around for Washington and Antoine Fuqua. Fuqua directed the film "Training Day" giving Washington a best actor award. Fourth spot goes to "The Boxtrolls" with 12.4; and finally the teens got out of the maze, "The Maze Runner" is at the fifth spot earning 12 million dollars.
"The Maze Runner" has a prequel and a sequel. So to all "Maze Runner" fanatics, don't fret, they'll be back soon!
Last five on the Box Office list are:
"Left Behind" (an ominous film with Nicolas Cage) - 6.8 million
"This is Where I leave You" (a comedy flick about a dysfunctional family) - 4 million
"Dolphin Tale 2" (a sequel) - 3.5 million
"Guardians of Galaxy" (a superhero 'save the day' film) - 3 million
"No Good Deed" (a home invasion movie) - 2.5 million
