Nicolas Cage Chose to Act in "Left Behind" Because of Pastor-Brother

If you ask Nicolas Cage why he took the lead role of "Rayford Steele" in the upcoming biblical thriller "Left Behind," he'll likely cite his admiration for the script and the opportunity to work again with director Vic Armstrong. But the Hollywood star has also revealed a more personal motivation.
"My brother, Marc, is a Christian pastor, and he was very excited about this," Cage told reporters in a press conference touting the film's Oct. 3 debut. "He said, you know, Nicky, you've really got to do this. "I'd already wanted to make the movie because I thought it was such a great script and an opportunity again to do something challenging," Cage continued, "but when I saw how passionate [Marc] was, I thought, well, yeah, I want to make this movie for my brother, too."
"Left Behind" is an apocalyptic thriller film directed by Vic Armstrong and written by Paul LaLonde and John Patus. It is based on the novel of same name, which is based on an interpretation of Bible prophecy, written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. The film will open nationwide on October 3, 2014.
Here's the movie's synopsis: Without warning, millions of people around the globe simply vanish in the eschatological event called "the Rapture". This causes vehicles to crash, rioting and looting. Airline pilot Ray Steele tries to deal with his hysterical passengers. He also has to try to land his plane when airports are filled with wrecks, as he wonders about his family. Journalist Buck Williams struggles to understand this devastating event. Ray's daughter, Chloe, struggles to find her mother and brother.
