Another young -adult adaption has captured the hearts of film aficionados. After Hunger Games and Divergent, let's give a warm salutation to the blockbuster 'The Maze Runner'. The movie is actually based on the novel written by bestseller author James Dashner. The premise of the movie is to survive in spite of the odds.
The new young adult sci-fi revolves around Thomas (Dylan O'Brien), a young man trapped in a giant labyrinth together with a bunch of boys, the Gladers. Threatened by robots called Grievers, the boys must outwit the said robots and unravel the mystery of the maze to survive.
Director Wes Ball, first-time feature filmmaker, did an awesome job in making sure the Maze Runner finish in the top spot. So far, in its first week, the movie garnered 32.5 million dollars in the US box office.
Aside from Obrien, the movie showcases Will Poulter as Gally ; Aml Ameen as Alby ; Blake Cooper as Chuck; Kate Scodelario as Teresa ; and Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Newt. Sangster is well-known for his role Jojen in the TV hit series Game of Thrones.
A Sequel and a Prequel on the horizon!
Well, the movie doesn't just end there. The film is actually a science fiction trilogy. Well-known author James Dashner wrote Maze Runner in 2007. Sequels The Scorch Trials was written in 2010 and The Death Cure in 2011.
The sequel movie - 'The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials' will catch the eye of movie goers come September 2015 while the prequel The Fever Code will be out in 2016.
The film enthusiasts undeniably have one important question: How did the Gladers end up in the maze? The forty-one year old author will surely enlighten us. "From the very beginning, I've always wanted to write a prequel about Thomas, Teresa, Newt, Minho, Alby and all the Gladers that leads up to the very moment Thomas enters the box," Dashner said.
So there we have it, two great movies to scrutinize in the future.
But for now, the movie 'The Maze Runner' is the movie to checkout. So grab your coat, run to your favorite movie house and enter the maze!
