'Lucy' An International Success with a Reported Gross Earning of $253 Million
"Lucy," starring Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman, is reaping success in the international scene, amounting to $253 million. Not surprising since the film has a budget of $40 million. In fact, the film has the second largest budget in the history of French film production. It also has the largest budget in the history of EuropaCorp. That said, it seems as if all the risks they have undertaken can be said to be worth it.
The film is directed by Luc Besson and it is no surprise that the film grossed $39 million in Besson's home country, France.
On opening weekend, "Lucy" topped the box office with $17,088.110. The producers expected less - around $14 to $15 million on opening weekend. "Lucy" exceeded all expectations.
The plot centers on Lucy. Lucy is an American student tricked into being a drug mule. She was supposed to be simply studying in Taipei but unexpected things started to happen after she unknowingly became a drug mule. Things got ugly fast and the bag that was sewn inside her leaked after one of her captors kicked her in the stomach. The drug was immediately absorbed through the bloodstream. As a result, Lucy acquired extraordinary capabilities: telepathy, telekinesis, mental time travel, and more others.
In the movie "Lucy," Morgan Freeman plays the role of Professor Samuel Norman, a scientist and a researcher who studies the human brain and its capacity. Lucy contacted him with the hope that he can help her understand what is happening to her.
Fans cannot help but be drawn to Lucy, a girl who transformed from innocent into an ultimate fighting machine in a short span of time. Moreover, the actress who played this uncoventional hero, Scarlett Johansson has proven time and time again that she is more than just a pretty face and that she can deliver any role that is asked for her.
