'Ben-Hur' Reboot Latest News and Update: Casts Morgan Freeman PLUS Jack Huston Grabs the Lead Role in Ben-Hur Remake
"Boardwalk Empire's" rising star Jack Huston is set to star in the latest remake of "Ben-Hur." The remake has big shoes to fill. The original "Ben-Hur" was a multi-awarded epic historical drama that took the world of filming by surprise. The budget that was allotted in making the film is the biggest budget at that time - $15.175 million. Everything is big - the costume design, the set design, the plot and the stars. And they got the reward - in a big way - 11 Academy Awards and three Golden Globes. Let's hope that "Ben-Hur" reboot can deliver the same elegance to the film.
The film was set in AD 26 and revolves around Judah Ben-Hur played by Charlton Heston. Ben-Hur is a wealthy prince from Jerusalem. His friend, Messala, a role brilliantly played by Stephen Boyd, is a tribune. The conflict between the two started when Messala asked Ben-Hur to reveal the names of Jews who are against the Romans. Ben-Hur refuse to do this which angered Messala.
The remake of the film will still be based on its main storyline - on the feud between Ben-Hur and Messala, but they are also planning to make it parallel to the story of Jesus Christ.
Aside from Houston, Morgan Freeman is also going to star on the film as Ildarin. Ildarin is responsible for teaching Ben-Hur on how to become a chariot racer champion. The creators are still on the lookout for the right actor who can play the legendary role of Messala.
The epic tale of "Ben-Hur" is based on Lew Wallace's novel "Ben-Hur: A Tale of The Christ." It's going to be directed by Timur Bekmambetov. Bekmambetov is known for directing Nigthwatch, a Russian language film that was released in 2004.
Anticipation is in the air as to what the latest "Ben-Hur" can offer.
