'Iron Man 4' Not in the Works According to Robert Downey Jr. See Full Marvel Movie Schedule
Iron Man 4 looks like it will not happen, at least not with Robert Downey Jr. starring as Tony Stark. Downey Jr. spoke with Variety and confirmed that Marvel is not pursuing a fourth installment of the franchise.
"There isn't one in the pipe," Downey shared at the Toronto International Film Festival. "No, there's no plan for a fourth 'Iron Man.'"
Downey Jr. is contracted for two more sequels in Marvel and Disney's "Avengers" series with release dates of May 2015 and 2018.
The first three 'Iron Man' movies brought in a collective $2.4 billion worldwide.
Could Tony Stark be re-cast for the future? "I like that the idea is that it would be up to me, like I'm casting director for Marvel," Downey Jr. said.
Downey has starred in six movies that have each grossed over $500 million at the box office worldwide. Two of those films, The Avengers and Iron Man 3, each earned over $1 billion. Downey topped the Forbes list of Hollywood's highest-paid actors with an estimated $75 million in earnings between June 2012 and June 2013.
Guardians of the Galaxy has emerged as a massive surprise hit to become the highest-grossing movie of the year. So Marvel is riding high on that wave right now.
As of now, here is the confirmed upcoming Marvel movie schedule:
May 1, 2015 - "Avengers: Age of Ultron"
