‘Escape from New York' Reboot: Dan Stevens and Charlie Hunnam Are Possible Leads
The 1981 American science-fiction action film "Escape from New York" is now added to the long list of movies getting rebooted. Various reports are saying that Downton Abbey's Dan Stevens and Sons of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam, and also The Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal are the early frontrunners to take the lead role as Snake Plissken, portrayed in the original film by Kurt Russell.
Starlog initially reported that the remake of the film is already under development by producer Joel Silver from Silver Pictures. It also added that the new version will be taking the Avengers approach or the so-called team-based adventure, wherein the film will introduce various characters fighting along each other in many adventures. This could mean that they are building the reboot as a possible franchise.
The team of Snake Plissken will consist of Cabbie (schizophrenic travel guide), Mina (warzone journalist living as a rummager in New York), Gareth (presidential security detail survivor), and The Brain (Plissken's former crime partner).
"Escape from New York" is set in the then-near future 1997 and tells the story of ex-soldier Snake Plissken who is given a mission within 22 hours to find the US President who has been held captive after the Air Force One crash in Manhattan, which is converted to a maximum-security prison. It was followed by a sequel, "Escape from L.A." in 1996.
Dan Stevens is next seen in the film The Guest, Charlie Hunnam is back for Sons of Anarchy's final season, and Jon Bernthal with The Walking Dead season 5 this October.
