Watch Dogs 2 Release Date, News, and Rumors: Aiden Not to Return in Sequel?
Back in May, Watch Dogs dominated game sales for the PlayStation 4 and now gamers are anticipating for a sequel. Rumors circulating around the internet have now speculated that a sequel might already be in progress and that gamers should expect an announcement for a 2016 release for Watch Dogs 2.
Ubisoft's Watch Dogs is set in the near future in Chicago where an operating system called ctOS is connected to almost everything including security cameras and is set to survey and detect possible threats. Players take control of the character of hacker/vigilante Aiden Pearce set on tracking down and seeking justice to the people responsible for the death of his niece Lena. Watch Dogs is a third-person, action-adventure game where players can roam freely in an open world environment.
Watch Dogs has shipped more than 8 million copies worldwide and has been given favorable reviews by gamers and critics alike. A sequel is now considered to be inevitable due to the success of the game.
Rumors broke that the game's protagonist, Aidan, may not be returning to Watch Dogs 2 citing that there is a shortage of video game heroes who belong to minority groups. Game developers have caught wind of the issue and are now possibly considering this change.
Right now, all we have are rumors and speculations for Ubisoft have not released an official statement on Watch Dogs 2. Though a possibility but highly unlikely 2016 release date could be announced in the coming months, gamers' zeal on the matter should be dealt with lowered expectations. Watch Dogs took 5 years before it was released, but it would be unbelievable for a sequel to take that long to make. 2016 is still far away, but consider the fact we could not see a sequel that soon.
Watch Dogs is currently available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, and PC.
