Star Trek 3 Release Date, Latest News: In Time for TV's 50th Anniversary Would Be A Mixture of the Geek Spirit with Ample Amount of Intelligence and Compassion - According to Gene Roddenberry
Looks like fans of the sci-fi franchise won't have to wait long to be able to see a third installment of the rebooted series. Yes, Star Trek 3 release date has been slated for a 2016 release just in time for the 50th anniversary of original television series it was based on. Star Trek was created by Gene Roddenberry for the Television.
J.J. Abrams unfortunately will not be directing Star Trek 3 despite his work on the first two Star Trek movies but will only be producing it. Joe Cornish, known for his work on Attack the Block, has been planned to replace Abrams for the third Star Trek movie. It is with great hope that with Cornish's explicit respect to the classic way of storytelling may hit the target in terms on how Roddenberry first envisioned Star Trek would be: A mixture of the geek spirit with ample amount of intelligence and compassion.
The Star Trek 3rd movie will be penned by Roberto Orci once more but his co-writer for the previous two installments, Alex Kurtzman will not be making a return. However Orci will be joined by Patrick McKay and J.D Payne, who are notable Star Trek fans themselves. They are also known to be working on an Abram's comic book to film adaptation, Boilerplate. Kurtzman's departure from the production was further explained by his several responsibilities ranging from upcoming movies such as The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and upcoming horror monster reboots and ongoing series such as Sleepy Hollow.
Though there had been no major spoilers pertaining to the 3rd Star Trek movie, Orci did mention in a podcast that the movie will be focusing on, you probably guess it, outer space. It was also hinted that it will focus on their five year adventure in space - a shout out to the original storyline. In addition to that, Benedict Cumberbatch, who played the role of Khan in the last movie, shared that he may be returning though he and co-star Zachary Quinto are not too sure on the final plans.
