NBA News and Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Posts Instagram Photo Unveiling New, Leaner Look
"Carmelo Anthony signed a five-year, $124 million deal to stay with the Knicks and it looks like he's not taking the responsibility of being the star of Phil Jackson's Knicks vision lightly," says Zach Harper at CBS Sports. In an Instagram photo posted on the net, Harper noted that Anthony "looks like he lost a good 15-20 lbs. from his frame. His stomach and waist are very slimmed down."
"Carrying less weight is certainly a positive when you consider the length of Anthony's contract," says Ian Begley of ESPN. "It's fair to assume his body will be less susceptible to nagging injuries if he has less weight on his frame. That, in turn, could increase the likelihood he remains healthy and effective during the life of the contract."
Another NBA rumor has it that Anthony shed weight to better fit in with his team's new game plans. According to Yannis Koutroupis of Basketball Insiders, the 30-year old clutch player's new physique "could signal a change in approach for Anthony, perhaps in preparation for how he is going to be used in the triangle offense. With a leaner frame, his quickness and ability to get by defenders should increase. He may not be able to physically overwhelm defenders in the low post like he used to, but expect to see plenty of him in the paint still."
Whatever the sports pundits say, fans will get to see for themselves Anthony in action and in the flesh in his new sleeker, leaner look very soon. According to official NBA news released today, the New York Knicks will be starting the 2014-2015 season by hosting the Chicago Bulls on October 29. The following day, October 30, they will be hosted by LeBron James and the Cavaliers.
