'Leftovers' Season 2 Renewed by HBO Starring Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman and Liv Tyler
HBO officially renewed "The Leftovers" for Season 2 with first season still currently in progress. The supernatural drama series from Damon Lindelof stars Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Carrie Coon, Emily Meade, Amanda Warren, Ann Dowd, Michael Gaston, Max and Charlie Carver, and Annie Q.
"We are thrilled to bring back The Leftovers for a second season with the exceptional talents of Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta," Michael Lombardo, president of HBO programming, said in a statement. "It has been truly exciting to see the overwhelming response to their provocative and original storytelling. We look forward to continuing the journey as the show delves deeper into the lives of those who remain."
"The Leftover" was created by Lindelof and novelist Tom Perrotta based on Perrotta's novel, The Leftovers. It follows the impact of a rapture-like global event on a small suburban community. Specifically, the show follows a group of people who are left behind in the suburban community of Mapleton. They must begin to rebuild their lives after the loss of more than 100 people.
The pilot was ordered in February 2013. On September 16, 2013, HBO announced that they were taking The Leftovers to series, ordering a 10-episode first season. The Leftovers is the first HBO series to be acquired from an outside studio, Warner Bros. Television, and not solely produced by HBO.
Star Justin Theroux is best known for his work with film director David Lynch, appearing in two of his films, Mulholland Drive (2001) and Inland Empire (2006). He is also known as a screenwriter for films such as Tropic Thunder, Iron Man 2, and Rock of Ages.
