Foo Fighters New Album 'Sonic Highways' Release Date 2014 Announced, Documentary HBO TV Series Coming This Fall (VIDEO)
The eighth studio album from The Foo Fighters was officially confirmed earlier this Summer that will serve as the follow-up to 2011′s Wasting Light and be released through Roswell/RCA Records. Today, Grohl announced the new album will be released on November 1oth. You can hear a brief clip on the band's website.
Singer, Dave Grohl, also announced a new HBO series titled "Sonic Highways" will premiere on October 17th with Grohl serving as director. The series documented the Foo Fighters recording a different legendary studios in eight different cities including Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington, DC and New York.
They released a press release that explains: "One song was recorded in each city, every song featuring local legends sitting in, and every lyric written in an unprecedented experimental style: Dave held off on putting down words until the last day of each session, so as to be inspired by the experiences, interviews and personalities that became part of the process. Each episode delves into the singular regional identity of each city-how each region shaped these musicians in their formative years, and in turn the impact those people had on the cultural fabric of their hometowns-ultimately celebrating their common bond: Every artist that appears in the show, regardless of genre or locale, started as an average kid with the universal dreams of making music and making it big."
The first episode of the new HBO series will premiere on the eve of Foo Fighter's 20th anniversary as a band. Grohl released a documentary film called Soundcity that went through the history of the famous recording studio and his journey to eventually recover the sound board and bring it into his home studio to keep making music with it since Soundcity had to shut its doors. That film-making experience must have given him the interest and confidence to move ahead with this new series. More details to come soon.
