Newsboys Frontman Michael Tait Accused of Sexual Assault and Misconduct

Allegations of sexual misconduct and drug abuse have surfaced against Michael Tait, former lead singer of the Christian rock band Newsboys. The accusations involve three separate incidents of non-consensual sexual activity alleged to have occurred in 2004, 2010, and 2014. The accusers, all men in their twenties at the time of the alleged encounters, claim they were threatened with being blacklisted from the Christian music industry if they spoke out.
Two of the men alleged that Tait fondled them while they were intoxicated. One said Tait offered him cocaine aboard the Newsboys tour bus. Another recounted an incident in which Tait massaged his buttocks and anal region after skinny dipping, later initiating unwanted physical contact in bed.
The claims are among several that have circulated for years in Nashville's Christian music community, long considered an "open secret" within the industry, according to the report. Alleged victims say fear of being blackballed or not taken seriously kept them from speaking publicly until now.
Tait abruptly stepped down from Newsboys in January 2025, citing personal reflection and spiritual realignment. However, these recent allegations have led many to question the circumstances surrounding his departure.
In a public statement issued by the remaining members of Newsboys, the band expressed deep anguish and dismay:
"Our hearts are shattered. While Michael shared that he was living a double life before stepping down, we had no knowledge of the allegations that have since come to light. We stand with the survivors and pray for truth, healing, and accountability. We encourage others who may have been affected to come forward."
Newsboys' Canadian tour, scheduled for later this year, has been canceled by promoter Faith Live due to concerns over the band's transparency regarding Tait's exit and the broader implications of the allegations.
At this time, Michael Tait has not made a public statement in response to the accusations. No criminal charges have been filed, and it remains unclear whether any formal investigations are underway.
