Lulu Roman, Beloved 'Hee Haw' Star and Gospel Music Icon, Dies

Lulu Roman, born Bertha Louise Hable on May 6, 1946, in Dallas, Texas, passed away on April 23, 2025, at the age of 78. She was best known as a beloved cast member of the television variety show Hee Haw, where her comedic talent and vibrant personality made her a fan favorite.
Beyond her television career, Roman was a gospel singer and author, known for her inspiring journey of overcoming personal struggles, including drug addiction and health issues, and embracing Christianity. Her contributions to Southern Gospel music were recognized with her induction into the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1999.
Roman's early life was marked by challenges; born with a thyroid dysfunction, she was placed in Buckner Orphans Home shortly after birth. Despite these hardships, she rose to fame as a beloved cast member of the television variety show Hee Haw, which debuted in 1969. Her comedic talent and vibrant personality made her a fan favorite.
During her time on the show, she faced personal struggles, including drug addiction, which led to her absence from the program for several seasons. However, she overcame these challenges, embraced Christianity, and began a successful career as a gospel singer, releasing over a dozen albums and performing alongside country music legends like Dolly Parton.
In 1999, Roman was inducted into the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame, recognizing her significant contributions to Southern Gospel music. Her autobiography, This Is My Story; This Is My Song, published in 2019, offers an inspiring account of her life's journey.
Roman is survived by her son, Damon. Her legacy continues through her music and the inspiration she provided to many.
