Sean Rodriguez Talks About Working with Disciple, His New EP and Upcoming Shows

Sean Rodriguez

Jesus Will, the inaugural release from WieRok Records and the long-awaited debut EP from genre-spanning singer/songwriter Sean Rodriguez, is now available. Showcasing his reigning #1 hit, "It Is Finished" (feat. Disciple), which has claimed the top spot on Christian Music Weekly's Rock chart for a total of six weeks to date, the Jesus Will EP also features Rodriguez's first single of 2025, "Rise."

Catapulted into the spotlight as a featured Pre-Jam artist on 2023's nationwide Winter Jam tour-one of Christian music's biggest annual outings-Sean Rodriguez (formerly Sean BE) enters a new season of music and ministry honoring the legacy birthed by his evangelist grandfather more than 40 years ago.

Q: Sean, thank you for doing this interview with us. How do you feel now that your song "It Is Finished" (featuring Disciple) has topped the Christian Rock chart for nine weeks?

Honestly, it's an incredible honor. The prayer was that this song would become an anthem of victory, not because of what we've done, but because of what God has done. The fact that it reached #1 and has stayed there for as long as it has tells me that the song's message is really resonating with others. It's time for us to battle back and stand strong and confident in God's power, and this anthem of victory is to help us do that. I'm so thankful for the way that listeners have spread this song, and the way God has used it to make an impact.

Q: Tell us more about how you came to work with Disciple?

I met Disciple during the Winter Jam 2023 tour. It was my first tour, and I was really trying to figure it all out. It was hard to keep up, but Kevin Young came alongside me, shared his story with me, and truly changed the way I thought about it all. The Disciple guys changed my life, and they are examples of what true ministry through music looks like on and off the stage.

Later, I played the chorus of this song for them and asked Kevin if he would sing on it with me. He didn't hesitate; he said yes immediately, and we made it happen. The time in the studio with him was INCREDIBLE. My team and I have been longtime Disciple fans, so we were high-fiving and jumping around while he was in the recording booth doing what he does! He held nothing back; he gave everything to the track, and you can tell. There's not another voice out there that could deliver this kind of power. Then Josiah Prince came in with an insane guitar solo! Honestly, the making of this song and the experience of working with Disciple was a dream come true for me-a real example of God doing immeasurably more than I could imagine.

Q: Are there other artists you would like to work with?

I'd love to team up with Toby Mac, Jeremy Camp or Crowder-or maybe do a hip-hop track with KB. All those guys have been music inspirations to me. Ultimately, God orchestrated my relationship with Disciple, and His hand in that process means so much more to me, so I will continue to work within the relationships God creates.

Q: What's the story behind your new song "Rise"? Why are you excited about this track?

I started writing rise with two good friends who I regularly collaborate with. I wanted a song that would capture the joy and energy that I imagine people in Jesus' day must have felt after personally experiencing one of His miracles. Think of the man who was lowered through roof to meet Jesus and the JOY that swept over his body when Jesus said, "Get up," and he did! That's what I wanted to reflect in this song.

We wrote the verses, bridge and parts of the chorus, but I felt like it was missing something, and I couldn't quite pinpoint what. Then Chuck Butler came into the picture. He's the producer behind some of my favorite songs, and he heard our demo and agreed it was a solid start. Together, we came up with "RIIIIIIIIIIIIISE" and "I've got a new heart, new hope, new song in my soul." "Rise" became the hook and the name of the song-it was the missing piece. I'm excited about this track because it's already giving others those feelings of joy and energy that I prayed it would. God has done miracles in so many of our lives, and this song is reminding us of that!

Q: Your new EP Jesus Will is your debut with WieRok Records. What is it like working with them?

WieRok is incredible! They not only care about the music, but they care even more about ministry through music and about me and my family. They are an amazing team, and I can't wait to see what more God has in store for us going forward together. I'm all in!

Q: What can fans expect from you in this new year of 2025?

I'm more excited about my live concert set than I ever have been. Every aspect of the show is intentional, and I think people are going to really enjoy the experience this year. I also want folks to truly be able to get to know me this year, and I want to know them better as well. Hearing other people's stories reminds me that God is everywhere, and it reminds me how GREAT He truly is. My fans' stories inspire me more than they could know.
