Lady Gaga New Jazz Album 2014 with Icon Tony Bennett to Release in September
Lady Gaga has been quietly recording in New York city and it might not be what her fans expect. She pop singer has actually been working on a jazz standards album with one of her musical heros, Tony Bennett.
They announced the album Tuesday morning (July 29th) on the "TODAY" show at 30 Rockefeller Center. The new jazz album will be titled Cheek to Cheek and is set to release on September 23rd.
"The collaboration has been so wonderful. It's so natural singing with Tony," Gaga said. "I just learn so much from him every day. I'm so happy."
Bennett, 87, gushed about Gaga. "She sings so wonderful and she's actually really a great jazz singer," Bennett said. "She improvises every time we do a song. We do it over and over and it's different every time."
"Since I was 13, I've been singing jazz and I sang "Orange Colored Sky" in this event that we did together to raise money for the impoverished people of New York City," Gaga said of the song made popular by Nat King Cole. "He heard me sing the song and he said 'I love it. You singing jazz. You want to do an album together?' And I said, 'Of course!' "
This isn't the first time Bennett has worked with a younger pop singer, he was working with Amy Winehouse when she tragically passed away. Lady Gaga isn't known for jazz music by many, but she grew up singing jazz classics before she came to international pop stardom.
