Lacy. J Dalton's "Everybody Makes Mistakes" Turns 40

Country music veteran Lacy. J Dalton's "Everybody Makes Mistakes" turns 40 this weekend. Released on December 5th, 1981, the second single from her album Takin' It Easy reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. The song speaks about how as human beings we all make mistakes. instead of responding to these mistakes with harshness and ridicule, we should respond to them with grace. It is often through these mistakes we grow, we learn, we repent, and we become better followers of Christ.
"I didn't know until a couple of years ago, when a DJ in Pennsylvania told me, that BMI said this song has the most radio airplay in the states of all the songs I've ever written. I never knew that - and I really like this song," shares Dalton. "Life is hard and we can't muster in the past. Although we all make them, we can't allow our mistakes to define us as a person or hold them against someone forever."
2021 also marked the 40th anniversary of Dalton's album and title track "Takin' It Easy" which reached number 2 on Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks Chart and received a Million Airplay award from BMI. The easygoing tune came to life by Dalton and Mark while on a boat in the middle of Old Hickory Lake near Nashville, before being taken to Billy Sherrill for production. Once released, "Takin' It Easy" became Dalton's highest-charting single and one of her most well-known songs to date.
