Katie Holmes Joins Ryan Reynolds & Helen Mirren in 'Woman in Gold' Movie Cast
The upcoming drama film The Woman in Gold is adding to their famous cast with the announcement of Katie Holmes. The 35-year-old Holmes has been cast as Ryan Reynolds' onscreen wife in a real-life Jewish refugee.
The film is "set in 1998 and follows a holocaust survivor (Helen Mirren) who solicits the help of her newly minted lawyer grandson to help her sue the Swiss government to get back priceless artwork stolen by the Nazis," according to Deadline.
Tatiana Maslany will play the younger version of Helen's character. She will star alongside Holmes, Ryan Reynolds, Daniel Bruhl and Antie Traue.
Helen Mirren stars as Maria Altmann, a Jewish WWII survivor who spent four decades battling Austrian officials for the safe return of art stolen from her family by the Nazis during World War II. The stash, including Gustav Klimt's famous "The Lady in Gold" painting, was returned in 2006. Ryan Reynolds will portray Altmann's young lawyer, Randy Schoenberg, and now Holmes has been added to the line-up as his wife.
Director Simon Curtis' real-life wife, "Downton Abbey" star Elizabeth McGovern, has also been added to the cast of the movie, alongside fellow new additions Max Irons, Daniel Bruhl and "Game of Thrones" actor Charles Dance. Simon Curtis is set to join forces with BBC Films, the British public broadcaster's movie unit, to direct the movie.
Filming and Production for the new movie began last week in the U.K., Austria and the U.S. No official release date has been set yet but it will be sometime in 2015.
