Selena Gomez' First Performance After Kidney Transplant Will Be At The 2017 American Music Awards
Selena Gomez will return to the public eye in a major appearance with her upcoming performance at the 2017 American Music Awards. She will be performing for the first time since undergoing kidney transplant surgery.
Dick Clark Productions and ABC Network officially announced the news in a press release on October 26, Thursday. Gomez took to social media and tweeted the announcement as well, expressing her excitement to perform her latest single ‘Wolves.’ The annual awards show has been set for November 19, Sunday, in Los Angeles.
The 25-year-old singer’s upcoming performance will be her third taking to the stage for the yearly event. In 2015, Gomez had a live performance of her pop single “Same Old Love”; she offered an emotional cover of her love song “The Heart Wants What It Wants” in 2014.
Gomez took a break from her career earlier this year after undergoing surgery for a kidney transplant. Her best friend, actress Francia Raisa, had been her donor.
“I’m very aware some of my fans noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of,” Gomez wrote as caption for an Instagram post she shared in September of herself and Raisa as they held hands while wearing hospital gowns. “So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health.”
After the procedure, the “Bad Liar” songstress reportedly connected once more with ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber, to “make peace," as noted by Us Weekly.
“He has been great to her since her surgery and they are on good terms right now. They got back in touch recently through her friends and have seen each other at church,” a source for Us Weekly said.
The 2017 American Music Awards is set to air on ABC on November 19, Sunday, at 8 p.m. ET.
