Vince Gill Shares Beautiful New Song He Wrote for Amy Grant’s Birthday (Video)

Vince Gill has recorded many songs with his wife Amy Grant before. But in a rare treat, he has also crafted a new song dedicated to Christian music's superstar Amy Grant at the Universal Music Group Nashville's annual luncheon last Thursday. The new song was in celebration of Grant's birthday. What is most heart warming is Gill could not stop being grateful for his wife's Christian roots and love for Jesus.
On Thursday afternoon (Feb. 23), country radio programmers and press attended Universal Music Group Nashville's annual luncheon, where the label hosted a nearly two-hour performance from 14 of the artists on their roster. Each singer treated the audience at the historic Ryman Auditorium to one acoustic song.
Gill was part of the lineup and he gave an acoustic rendition of a new song he wrote for Amy Grant. "I had to be pretty truthful, and I had to be somewhat vulnerable for myself," Gill says of the song. "We both grew up in completely different lights. She grew up in a church house, [going] two to three times a week, and I grew up in beer joints, and we had completely different family experiences. She had this great church life, and I had no church life."
"When my Amy prays / When my Amy prays / That's when I feel His grace," he sings on the chorus.
Gill met Christian music artist Amy Grant in 1993 when he asked her to perform in his first televised Christmas special. They formed a lasting friendship. Both parties were in troubled marriages. Grant and then husband Gary Chapman began divorce mediation in 1998, with Grant moving out of the home and filing for divorce in early 1999. The divorce was finalized in June 1999. Gill and Grant began to see each other publicly a few months later. In March 2000 they were married. Together they have one daughter, Corrina.
