Lawson Bates Opens Up About His Upcoming Album & His New Single "I Will Always"

The 4th of 19 kids, Lawson Bates is an aspiring Country-gospel music artist. Lawson's first record, Freedom Sure Ain't Free, was recorded in Nashville. He has also released a single "I Thought l Had Problems" to help raise awareness and support for poverty stricken areas around the world. Currently, the country music hopeful is in-studio working with producer, Andy Leftwich (fiddle player for country music legend Ricky Skaggs), on his second complete album.
Hallels: Lawson, thanks for doing this interview with us again. The last time we interviewed you was when you had your last album "Freedom Sure Ain't Free" out. Now, you are back with another new album. How's this new album the same or/and different?
There will be similar traits, but I think this album as a whole will show more of who I am as an artist, since I've written or co-written almost every song on the album. I can't wait for everyone to hear it!
Hallels: You have a brand new single out "I Will Always," tell us more about this song. What's this song about?
"I will always" is a song about trust, commitment and faithfulness. My sister had asked me to write and sing a love song for her wedding. "I will always" was a song I had been working on, and I thought it would be perfect for the occasion! After writing and singing it for the wedding, I decided to cut it in Nashville and release it as a single! I think it's a song so many people will be able to relate to.
Hallels: Who did you work with in terms of songwriters, musicians, and producer for this new record?
Well, I'm about halfway through the production and so far I have been able to work with a lot of great people. Andy Leftwich has helped guide and direct the project from the start. I've also been able to work with some fantastic writers: Jason Wyatt, Mike Todd and Matt Rovy.
Hallels: What were some of the joys and challenges of making this new album?
Well, it's always fun getting in the studio and hearing new music come to life, but I think one of the biggest challenges for me is the writing. Sometimes I feel stuck in a rut and it's frustrating, but I think once a new song finally does come together, it makes me appreciate the outcome even more! I think my favorite part of it all is hearing back from the fans what the music means to them.
Hallels: You are also part of the series "Bringing Up the Bates," what are some of the highlights for you in working on this set?
There are so many great things I could say about working with UPTV and our crew- they have honestly become like family:) We all are grateful for UP and love their goal to put out positive uplifting programming the entire family can enjoy. I think UP is the perfect fit for "Bringing Up Bates."
Hallels: Coming from a big family, what are some of privileges and blessings?
There are a million positives to being in a large family! One is you always have someone there for you! Also, there is never a dull moment;)
Hallels: With your new album, what are some lessons you hope your listeners will grasp after hearing it?
Wow, big question! One thing I hope people take away is that God is faithful and Loves us unconditionally. These songs hit on so many different subjects and emotions. A few other things I think people can get out of it would be to value relationships, value time, and value the moment.I really can't wait for people to hear the entire album when it is released in May! But until then, the new single "I Will Always" is available on ITunes, Google Play, Amazon and just about any other music outlet.
