'How I Met Your Mother' Star Neil Patrick Harris to Host New Variety Show on NBC

'How I Met Your Mother' Star Neil Patrick Harris to Host New Variety Show on NBC
Neil Patrick Harris has stayed extremely busy since "How I Met Your Mother" wrapped their final season on CBS.
The popular actor has been pushing himself in different direction, starring in the hit movie thriller Gone Girl and wrapping up a short stint on Broadway with the musical Hedwig.
Now, Harris is heading back to television to host a new variety show on NBC that is based on the longtime U.K. "Saturday night Takeaway" show. The show will be based in New York and the first season is set for 10 episodes.
The variety show will be taped in front of a live audience (ala SNL) and feature comedy sketches, musical numbers, mini game shows, hidden-camera celebrity pranks and appearances by A-listers.
There is no set release date yet, but since it is on NBC is not expected to air on Saturday Nights due to SNL.
"As I watched the show, I couldn't stop smiling. Now that I've seen many seasons, my face hurts. It's a game changer," said Harris to Vulture. "Nothing like this has been done before, and its unique structure fits right into my random skill set. I can't wait to roll up my sleeves and have some fun!"
"All of us here at NBC have been dying to work with Neil, as we've watched him brilliantly host the Tonys and Emmys," said Paul Telegdy, president of alternative and late-night programming at NBC Entertainment. "This series will suit his extraordinary talents perfectly. He is a versatile and thrilling talent for us to welcome into the NBC family."
This seems like a natural fit for Harris and could thrive in this show environment. Shows are never a sure thing, you just have to wait and see how it is received when it airs, but we are excited to see how this still unnamed show will turn out.
