Blackberry Continues its Momentum: Blackberry Classic to be Released After Passport's Launched; Canadian Company 'Happy' With Inventory Issues; Brief Comparison between the Two New Handsets
After a significant lost of profits and market share, the Canadian tech company is now back on track and wastes no time in unleashing new handsets, one after the other. Blackberry, after last month's launch of the unique Passport smartphone, has another new handset underway, as reported by Know Your Mobile.
The upcoming smartphone from the Blackberry Ltd., led by the company's new CEO John Chen, is dubbed as the Blackberry Classic. Take its name literally as the new device from the Canadian company shares the same façade as its older siblings. Unlike the unconventional Passport, Classic is a more traditional handset.
Chen has been the key in reviving the company that was not able to cope up with the touchscreen era started by Apple and Samsung. After the Blackberry's hiatus in tech market, the new leader of the camp focused in creating corporate devices, Bloomberg reported.
Blackberry Passport has been the new and improved Blackberry's first try in its comeback on smartphone industry and as the numbers stated, CEO Chen is now happy because of having inventory problems with their new handset. "I'm glad to have inventory issues. It shows that people want the phone," he said.
Clearly, the tech firm is now back on track. So let us now compare the two new handsets from Blackberry based on GSM Arena.
The company is quite doing well in keeping the essential information about the upcoming Blackberry Classic that is why there are no news about its body and built yet. From what are seen in leaked photos, the Classic handset is set to have the same QWERTY keypad that has been the trademark of BB devices. Blackberry Passport with the same keypad, on the other hand, has 128 x 90.3 x 9.3 mm dimensions and weighs 196 grams.
In terms of display, Passport has bigger IPS LCD display at 4.5-inch with 1440 x 1440 pixels and made of Corning Gorilla Glass 3, compared to Classic's rumored 3.46-inch screen with 720 x 720 pixels. Meanwhile, both BB phones have the same BlackBerry 10.3 operating system.
The unique Passport, on the other hand, is powered by the better chipset and processor compared to Classic, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 Quad-core chip clocked at 2.26 GHz with Krait 400 processor versus Qualcomm Dual-core clocked at 1.5 GHz.
When it comes to memory capacity, Passport is superior at 32GB expandable storage versus Classic's 16GB expandable memory. The odd Blackberry is also equipped with bigger RAM compared to the traditional handset at 3GB versus 2GB.
In terms of camera, Passport is still superior with 13MP snapper with 4128 x 3096 pixels and 2MP front selfie cam, compared to Classic's 8MP camera with, 3264 x 2448 pixels and the same 2MP front snapper. The older Blackberry is also powered with the better non-removable Li-Ion 3450 mAh battery while Classic will reportedly have Li-Ion 2515 mAh battery.
