Guillermo del Toro spoke his thoughts on the Mexican concept of life in Telegraph. "It is unnatural to deny effort, adversity, and pain," he said. "I think we live in a culture that is actually hhedging all of it towards comfort and immediacy, things that scare me. All the things that they sell us as a way of life scare me," he added.
Wigan Today reveals a glimpse of the Mexican culture as associate with the movie. The animated film has a tinge of an event called "Dia de los Muertos" or "Day of the Dead", which is a significant yearly gathering for families and friends. This is to honor the memory of their loved ones who passed away. The celebration takes place in three days, which starts on October 31. It involves activities such as decorating graves and constructed altars with flowers, sugar skulls, plus other gifts that have distinctive importance to the departed.
Aside from learning about the Mexican culture, the movie instills and emphasizes values to its audience, primarily the significance of family, as per Common Sense Media. This value can be understood by both children and parents. Also, behind the vibrant and colorful animation is the lesson of doing the right thing. The protagonists exhibit various traits that can mold people to become better.
"The Book of Life" is produced by Reel FX Creative Studios and distributed by 20th Century Fox.
