Blue Ruin Indie Movie News, Reveals, Rumors, Plot, Reviews and Updates: Movie Big Hit at Cannes Film Festival
The revenge story has been told in so many ways in a myriad of voices from Four Brothers to Kill Bill everyone has had their stab at the story. Independent film maker Jeremy Saulnier has also thrown his unique hat into the ring. Saulnier has written, directed and done the cinematography on this film after seeking the funds through a widely successful Kickstarter campaign. The movie was launched officially on May 17th of 2013 at the Cannes Film Festival after which it was released on video on demand and theatres on April 25th 2015.
The movie is based on a man who lives in his parent's wreck of a car that is parked at the beach, getting food out of the dumpster. While leading this idealistic life a policewoman tracks him down and informs him that the man who killed his parents is set to be released. Dwight fires up his car and goes in search of Wade Cleland, he follows him out of prison right to a club rest room where he confronts him and stabs him in the temple. When he realizes that he has left his car keys in the rest room with the dead man he takes Wades limousine and discovers the boy William in the back seat. He lets William out and goes to visit his sister whom he hasn't seen in a while believing the police to be hot on his trail. When the duo find out that the Cleland family has chosen to seek revenge themselves Dwight's sister up and leaves with her children. This game of revenge continues culminating in a shocking discovery and a trail of bodies.
Macon Blair takes up the role of Dwight Evans and is joined by seasoned actors like Devin Ratray and Eve Plumb. This movie is almost wholly self funded and as such does not have a major studio funding it or distributing it. Saulnier is a budding filmmaker who we should all look out for. We expect bigger and better things and this is definitely an interesting addition to any DVD library.
